Meet Our 2015-2016 YAV: Angela Williams

For the second year, NEXT Church is proud to have a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) working with the office. Angela Williams comes to us fresh from a first year serving as a Young Adult Volunteer in the Philippines in 2014-2015.

She is a cradle Presbyterian and proud Pastor’s Kid from Rock Hill, SC. Her involvement in her home church of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian (Rock Hill, SC) has taken her on mission trips with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, to conferences at Montreat, to Triennium Youth Conference, to General Assembly 221 in Detroit as a Young Adult Advisory Delegate, and now to Washington, DC as a YAV. She graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA in 2014 with majors in Religion and Psychology and a minor in Poverty and Human Capability Studies. Her academic aspirations will continue at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where she will pursue a Master of Divinity degree and ordination, as well as a Master of Science in Social Work degree with University of Texas at Austin starting fall 2016. Angela enjoys practicing yoga, appreciating music, being outside, exploring the city, reading blogs, and creating Excel spreadsheets.

Angela is dedicated to the future of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and super eager to learn about the innovative and creative work that NEXT Church is doing in partnership with leaders across the denomination. She hopes that her PresbyGeek knowledge will help her to continue build relationships and networks around the country that will last far beyond this YAV year. Her experiences living and learning in Nicaragua, Israel/Palestine, and the Philippines have greatly informed her worldview and theology, and she looks forward to applying these experiences to her work with NEXT Church this year. She is so excited about learning about community organizing and discerning how the Spirit calls us to be the Church. NEXT Church is sharing her with The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, but we are excited for how the work with both sites can help her to bring a breadth of perspective to the table.

Be sure to welcome her to the NEXT family if you see her at the National Gathering, Regional Gatherings, Church Leaders Roundtable discussions, or any other events this year. If you want to follow her experiences, feel free to read her blog.

From everyone in the NEXT family, Welcome!
