Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. She graduated with honors from St. Leo University with a B.A. Psychology. After traveling as an armed services spouse, she entered Columbia Theological Seminary where she graduated with a Masters in Divinity in May 2013. While at CTS, she distinguished herself in her in-depth research efforts at the intersection of anti-racism, art, worship, and multi-culturalism for which she was awarded honors in the area of practical theology. Upon her graduation, she was awarded the William Dudley Award for excellence in the area of evangelism and church growth.
Since seminary, Shavon has served calls as pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Midwest City, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, and Providence Presbyterian Church in Providence, RI. She is currently transitioning to serve in ministry in the Charlotte, NC area as her husband begins a seminary this fall. She finds profound joy in crafting worship, pastoral care, and encouraging as many people as possible to be involved with what God is up to in congregational life and beyond through faithful discernment. For the past 6 years, she has been dedicated to supporting the wider church through leadership in the NEXT Church movement as a strategy team member, coordination team leader, and co-chair.
