NEXT Church is currently seeking applicants for the following position.

Communications Specialist

Job Summary

The communications specialist will move NEXT Church into deeper and more effective communications strategy in print and online. They will expand and enrich online network and offerings. They will help develop and manage the voice of NEXT Church and position the organization as a leading and trusted voice in church leadership. NEXT Church is working to become an anti-racist organization. Staff are expected to be committed to this value and to be self-reflective in the work toward this organizational goal.

Essential Functions

Develop and manage communication and social media strategy for NEXT Church, including:

  • Create purposeful and visually appealing content for website that builds brand recognition.
  • Manage NEXT Church blog by scheduling themes and volunteer curators, posting content, and sharing across social and online platforms.
  • Support the success of regional and national gatherings, including: designing flyers (print and online), publicizing these events through online channels (website, FB, Twitter), posting to social media throughout the gathering and/or delegating this responsibility to volunteers, working with on-site AV personnel to ensure livestream of content and seamless transition of recorded content to website. Attendance at the National Gathering will be necessary.
  • Increase our online reach by
    • 1) working with volunteer Communications Team on blog themes and overall communications strategy; and
    • 2) developing strategy to build our email network.
  • Develop content for MailChimp email blasts with a goal of increasing regularity and open rates.
  • Catalyze NEXT Church leaders as NEXT Church ambassadors, collaborating on shaping NEXT Church’s message and equipping leaders to communicate it. This includes offering annual communications workshops to the NEXT Church leadership team and regular communications updates for Strategy Team meetings.
  • Develop and implement design and strategy for NEXT Church printed materials, such as rack cards, reports, and fundraising materials.
  • Curate NEXT Church’s online presence (including on Facebook and Twitter) and monitor mentions by others, responding as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with other staff and Strategy Team members to support their work for NEXT Church (i.e. fundraising, publicity for specific events, etc).
  • Work with staff and/or Strategy Team members to pitch stories to relevant media organizations to highlight the work of NEXT Church.
  • Manage an online photo repository for photos related to the work of NEXT Church.
  • Provide technical support for webinars and roundtables.

Other Details

Notes: This person will work remotely and will be required to have their own phone and internet connection, as well as the necessary computer hardware, including a laptop.

Hours Required: Approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility depending on the season. More hours required during the National Gathering. Travel 2-3 times per year for the National Gathering and in-person Strategy Team meetings.

Pay Range: $9,800-$11,000, based on experience. Salaried employment.

Date to Start: August 15, 2019, negotiable.
